A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the components are not uniformly distributed. Heterogeneous mixtures have multiple phases and can contain solids, liquids, and gases. Heterogeneity can be found in everyday life, from the soil in the garden to the pizza. Understanding the properties and behavior of heterogeneous mixtures is a must for many scientific and industrial applications.

Below table show 30 examples of heterogenous mixtures.

30 examples of heterogeneous mixtures
Here are the 30 examples of heterogeneous mixtures with an explanation of why each mixture is heterogeneous:
- Soil is a mixture of sand, clay, organic matter, and water, where the components are visibly different and do not mix evenly.
- Salad is a mixture of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, and dressing, where the different components retain their individual characteristics and do not blend evenly.
- Trail Mix is a mixture of nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips, and seeds, where the components are visibly different and do not mix evenly.
- Concrete is a mixture of cement, sand, gravel, and water, where the components do not dissolve or blend evenly and are visibly distinct.
- Oil and Vinegar Dressing is a mixture of oil, vinegar, and spices, where the different components do not blend evenly and can be visibly distinguished from one another.
- Chex Mix is a mixture of cereal, pretzels, nuts, and crackers, where the different components are visibly distinct and do not blend evenly.
